About Me

My name is Sam Bilner and I am a photographer originally from Southwest England, and now living in Plockton.

I am self-taught in my photography; reading magazines, watching numerous videos and attending several wildlife photography workshops.

I currently shoot with a Sony A99ii DSLR but will shortly be moving into the world of Sony Mirrorless.

I have always had a love for Scotland, which started from our first Scottish family holiday to Skye back in 2000.

Since then, as a family, we holidayed to Islay and Harris many times, as well as to Mull, Arran, Shetland and Orkney. Each year, it became more difficult to leave!

My photography journey began in the early 2000s, where I initially enjoyed railway videography, rather than photography. Some even referred to me as a trainspotter.

Later on, I took an interest in photography and purchased my first DSLR in 2012.

My photography interests expanded to landscapes, wildlife and astrophotography.

Astrophotography is my favourite style, whether I’m chasing the Northern Lights or capturing the stars above.

In 2013, my brother moved to Westray (part of the Orkney Islands), and in 2018 my parents decided to move to Skye.

It wasn’t long until I followed them moving North, in November that same year.

My sister, who now lives in Dubai, loves to visit and reminisce looking back at my many photos.

Plockton has now been my home for over 4 years, every weekend is still a holiday!

I can usually be found somewhere around Neist Point by weekends when visiting my parents in Northwest Skye.

I have had success in various competitions and my photos have been featured on BBC news over the years.

Ten years later and 5 cameras later, my love for photography continues to grow.

As of recently, I now sell prints on etsy - the link should be at the bottom of the page.

I can also produce other print mediums such as canvas.

Feel free to contact me via my Facebook page for any questions or enquiries.

Sam.
